Each year FOCC publishes an Annual Report in which it summarizes financial information about the charity and also describes FOCC’s objectives, activities and achievements during the past year.

2006 ANNUAL REPORT

Mission

Friends of the Clinical Center (FOCC) provides financial assistance to patients, and their families, faced with emergencies triggered by participation in research protocols at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.

 

 

Funding Summary 2006

In 2006, FOCC supported 45 funding requests from ten NIH Institutes for a total of $57,958.26.  Requests from families of pediatric patients made up 29% of the recipients and received 32% of the funds disbursed. Requests from adult patients made up 71% of the recipients and received 68% of the funds disbursed. Many of these adult patients support children and other family members.

The majority of requests were for assistance with housing expenses, i.e., rent and mortgage payments. Transportation requests included airline tickets and payments towards auto loans, insurance, and repairs. Medical expenses include assistance with insurance premiums and other medical-related expenses. Other includes expenses for storage, shipping personal items, and funeral expenses.

Activities and Events

· The ninth annual Premiere Night at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, held March 28th, raised $4,000 for FOCC and brought over 3,000 children from area hospitals and social service organizations to the circus free.

·  The 13th Annual Mark Moseley Celebrity Golf Tournament, held in May, raised $100,000 for NIH Charities Special Love and FOCC. FOCC accepted a check for $50,000 at GE’s Washington Offices in September.

· FOCC participated in community events including Imagination Bethesda and WJLA Family Health and Caregivers Expo.

· FOCC newsletter was published in July 2005. It was distributed within the NIH community and mailed to donors along with our Annual Appeal letter in November (see below).

· The Comcast Film Festival, held in August 2005, attracted approximately 80,000 attendees over the course of ten evenings, and raised $10,000 for FOCC.

·  The first annual Bikers for Tykes was held in September. This event, sponsored and hosted by GEICO, brought together motorcycle enthusiasts and families in the area for a day of free outdoor concerts plus amusements. The event benefited the NIH Charities including FOCC and Children’s Hospital.

· For the third consecutive year, the NIH Charities received the proceeds from Bethesda Arts Row, an art festival in downtown Bethesda featuring artist from around the world. The NIH Charities shared money raised at a silent auction of art donated by artist and by a “hands-on art booth” for children.

· FOCC participated in many of the fall 2006 CFC campaign at the NIH. (Information about the amount donated to FOCC through the CFC will be available in spring 2007.)

· FOCC, with the help of the R&W Association, held is Annual Holiday Bazaar in November. The event raised $5,250 for FOCC.

· The 2005 Annual Appeal Letter was mailed in November, and raised over $3,000 in donations.

· FOCC, along with Special Love and the R&W Association, hosted a Holiday Gift Wrap booth at White Flint Mall, raising $7,500 for FOCC and $3,500 for Special Love.
